Our church is intentional about developing authentic, caring communities. Our community groups are filled with people at all stages in their faith journey, who enjoy coming together for a good time. They are groups of people who live near one another, care for one another, and serve with one another, and ultimately follow Jesus with one another. Our community groups are designed to be a place where people, regardless of faith experience, can find great friends.
There are many different terms often used to describe a Community Group; House Church, Simple Church; Cell Group... All of these are basically the same idea. It is the community of Jesus gathering usually in people's homes to share life together.
Below is a great interview with many leading 'house church' thinkers in the western world.
Community Group Stages
As we are beginning new community groups, we have found that there is a natural development that occurs. Below is a working draft of the stages of Community Group development. Each stage includes the primary principles, bench marks, and key practices. There is much yet to learn. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Feel free to post on the Community Group Stages Forum .
As we gather as a community it is our
responsiblity to create space so that we can hear and respond to God's
call. However, most of our lives are clogged with noise and
isolation. The noise and isolation hinder our ability to hear God. Isolation
removes the many different voices that God speaks through. The noise
drowns out the quiet voice of God's Spirit. We must overcome these two
obstacles if we are to hear and respond to God.
Below is a short description of one way of
gathering as a community with the goal of hearing God. This is not the
only way the people of God can gather. Nor is it the only way that God
can speak to us. However, it is a fantastic starting point designed to
develop a community that is led by God.
