Great News!

We have just signed the lease for the new facility at Beck and 96, and we have the keys to the building!  Now the work begins and because of the type of initial work (unskilled), we'll need extra help this weekend.  We'll be working on Saturday from 9 to 5 and again on Sunday at 1 to move things out of the facility, do some demolition, and some painting.  If you can help at any of these times, please contact Jim Monkmeyer at 248-705-8476 or This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it  with the hours you can commit so we can plan refreshments and schedule the specific tasks.  It will also be a great time for everyone to see the space and start to envision the possibilities!

We just got news that the Miyamoto's visa was finally approved!!!

This is fantastic news as we have been working and praying about this for so long!  Now we still have a fair amount of work to do, but we have overcome an enormous hurdle.  Please continue to pray and watch for upcoming announcements.

March 4-7 is the next Sankofa trip with the Department of Compassion, Mercy, and Justice. Superintendent Dick Lucco and Debbie Blue (Executive Minister for the Department of CMJ) will be the facilitators of this trip. The GLC office encourages the churches to ask people to go on this trip; it is an amazing experience. For more information see below or go to http://www.covchurch.org/cmj/ministry/rr/sankofa-journey.

What is SANKOFA?

Sankofa is a West African word meaning “looking backward to move forward.” The Sankofa journey, an intentional, cross-racial prayer journey, seeks to assist disciples of Christ on their move towards a righteous response to the social ills related to racism. This interactive experience explores historic sites of importance in the Civil Rights movement, sites of oppression and inequality for people of color, while seeking to move participants toward healing the wounds and racial divide caused by hundreds of years of racial injustice in the USA.

A Sankofa journey increases one’s awareness, understanding and sensitivity for past struggles, victories and continuing racist oppression existing in our country, how far we have come, and how far we have yet to go.

Sankofa allows us the opportunity to consider how together, we might better address racial righteousness in our church, our nation, and our world.

On this 72-hour bus journey, participants will travel to critical sites of past and present racial injustice, such as Birmingham, AL, Memphis, TN, Albany, GA and Atlanta, GA. They will meet and hear from persons directly involved in ministries of justice in southern Georgia, visit places like the 16th Street Baptist Church, civil rights institutions, the Martin Luther King Center, and more.

A Sankofa journey is not just about information of the past and present, but seeks to be a journey for both personal and corporate change – simply put, a journey of spiritual transformation. Through sites visited, videos watched, and active processing of the journey, relationships of trust are deepened in an environment of grace.

The Sankofa Journey moves beyond the classroom setting to an interactive and intentional cross-racial partnership experience. The journey is an essential building block in addressing racial righteousness. Participants will explore and experience past sites of the Civil Rights movement, present realities of injustice and oppression, a sampling of Covenant ministries living out the Kingdom vision.

Praises:
The church retreat for the church plant in Bünde was very harmonious
and encouraging. Small groups were formed and the formal church
start was planned. Our small group start is this Sunday. It is great how
things are developing!

At the end of January we took part in a wonderful and warm
commisioning service in the FeG Rems-Murr. Through this they
showed their support for a new church plant here in Melle and were a
great encouragment to us.

René has a very good coaching relationship to prepare him for the
plant in Melle. At the moment they are working on his understanding
of leadership which is very helpful for him. Melissa has been able to
get to know other mothers in the area and hopes they will become
friends.

After Easter we will be able to host an Alpha marriage course at an
organization in Melle that supports families. We are really excited
about this great opportunity. Pray that people will sign up!

Requests:

The Inland-Mission(a part of our denomination), Renés last employer,
will not be able to reemploy Rene due to its poor financial situation.
Please pray with us that the Lord will open other financial channels
(Partner churches, friends, etc…).

Further contacts to Christians and non-Christians in Melle.

Warm Greetings from René & Melissa
with Liam & Joel
